May 2012 Pet of the Month: Dexter

Dexter belongs to one of my long-time housesitting clients, and he is a dream to take care of.  Persistently cheerful, enthusiastic, and affectionate, he is the perfect remedy for a long, stressful day.  You would never guess that he is a senior dog, because he has the boundless energy of a puppy, but he’s also great at snuggling up on the sofa and giving kisses.  In fact, one of his quirks is that he loves to give ear kisses, and only ear kisses.  He’s a discriminating gentleman.  🙂

Too smart for his own good, his idea of following rules is “what’s in it for me?”, but that makes him all the more fun to be around because convincing him that what you want him to do is also what he wants to do is exactly the kind of challenge that every behavior consultant loves.  But at the end of the day, as long as he gets his walk, his drink from the bathtub faucet, and his cuddles, he’s a happy camper.

I love you, Dexter!
